Helen Starman, CFRE

Senior Consultant

Helen Starman, a Senior Consultant at Richner & Richner, has over twenty five years of fundraising and non-profit experience as a fundraising consultant, development professional, social worker, community volunteer, and board member. Prior to Richner & Richner, Helen served as the Director of Development for IHN @ Alpha House, a shelter for parents and children experiencing homelessness.

Trained as a clinical social worker, Helen worked with parents and children in Detroit, Jackson, and Ann Arbor. Volunteer leadership on several non-profit Boards of Directors including the Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation, Lamaze Family Center, Community Day Care and Preschool, and several PTO’s sparked her interest in fundraising as a profession. At IHN @ Alpha House she created and managed an annual fundraising program that included: major gifts, direct mail, a multi-year pledge program, a monthly giving program, planned giving, an annual event, and a consistent stewardship and communication plan for both donors and volunteers.

A graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan School of Social Work, Helen lives in Ann Arbor with her husband, Jeff, and their three school age children. She continues to be actively involved as a volunteer with AFP Greater Detroit, United Way Washtenaw County, the Ann Arbor Public Schools, the Educational Foundation, and IHN @ Alpha House.
