Taking on worldwide poverty with the Grameen Foundation.

For more than a decade, we helped the Grameen Foundation shape its fundraising strategies to become a model global nonprofit organization whose efforts enable the poor to create a world without poverty and hunger.

The situation.

Inspired by the work of Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Grameen Foundation was formed in 1997 to facilitate the expansion of banks offering microfinancing and microcredit to alleviate poverty worldwide. The Foundation recognized the need for fundraising counsel to build the organization’s capacity and create a sustainable fundraising program.

They're strategic. They're approachable. Friendly. Dynamic. They have a great reputation.

The process.

Soon after its inception, R+R partnered with the Grameen Foundation to develop its philanthropy policies and practices. We continued our partnership for more than a decade, and were intimately involved in virtually every aspect of developing their fundraising strategies as their program took shape. This included working to establish corporate and annual giving programs, training for major gifts solicitation, creating tailored strategies for donor prospect engagement, and counseling through staff transition.

Through our involvement, the Grameen Foundation experienced remarkable success with its fund development program over a sustained period of time. Fundraising revenue grew from approximately $500,000 to nearly $20 million at the conclusion of our engagement.

Today, the Grameen Foundation is a model global nonprofit organization whose efforts in philanthropy have allowed it to expand its programs, partnerships, and geographic reach to enable the poor to create a world without poverty and hunger. In the last fiscal year, through 22 dedicated projects, the Foundation reached over 3 million people worldwide, many of whom were living below $2.50/day.
